Need to Know
MIT Dean Gordon Brown in 1962 said “engineering is not merely knowing and being knowledgeable, like a walking encyclopaedia; engineering is not merely analysis; engineering is not merely the possession of the capacity to get elegant solutions to non-existent engineering problems; engineering is practising the art of the organized forcing of technological change… Engineers operate at the interface between science and society”
(Brown 1962 in Hayes 2001:1)
These words are as true now as they were 40 years ago and as passionate engineers we embrace the persuasive force of technology in almost every area of life with innovations at an alarming pace. While we are equipped with knowledge our generations of engineering brings with it wisdom. We believe that the Internet offers a lot of knowledge but little in the way of wisdom. Therefore the idea of our website and company is to “operate as the interface between science and society”. Where most offer the knowledge that a tomato is a fruit, we offer knowledge and our wisdom, a tomato is a fruit but not suitable for fruit salads.
